Quay Repository mirroring with json file based authentication fails

- How to mirror repositories from upstream registry gcr.io using JSON file-based credentials?

Tried creating a repository, and setting its Repository State as Mirror, but under the mirror section, the credential format is only username/password. How to create a credential using the JSON file here and use it?
