How to force satellite registered hosts to report the primary IP address instead of secondary IP's?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • A server is configured with multiple secondary IP addresses. While registering the server, the primary IP address is passed as an argument to the bootstrap.py script.
  • Few hours later, satellite is showing the host is reachable through one of the secondary IP addresses. The secondary IP addresses are floating across cluster nodes, this leads to a failure during remote execution of commands from satellite.
  • Tried to set the IP address of the registered host from the host page in satellite WebUI but it's reverting back to the secondary IP address automatically.

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, 8, 9.
