oc adm release mirror fails due to error x509: certificate signed by unknown authority

Issue

  • When the oc adm release mirror command is run to mirror images to a private registry, the following error is seen when the images are being pushed to the private registry.

    error: unable to push quay.io/openshift-release-dev/ocp-v4.0-art-dev: failed to upload blob sha256:1daca76b2d78b9be00354b9fe96badbc8cb9d39b5ec16c62bb01749c9831763b: Get "https://<private-registry>/v2/": x509: certificate signed by unknown authority
  • The private registry is using a custom Certificate Authority (CA) to sign the certificate that it is using.
