[leapp 7to8] Booting on the RHEL 7 kernel after the in-place upgrade

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After upgrading to RHEL 8.x, only the RHEL 7.9 kernel is available for booting, whereas the el8 kernel is installed alongside the el8 userspace.

  • After completing an in-place upgrade from RHEL 7 to RHEL 8 using Leapp, the system continues to boot into the RHEL 7 kernel instead of the RHEL 8 kernel. This behavior is typically observed immediately after rebooting the system post-upgrade.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • leapp
