Kdump only generates vmcore-dmesg.txt file into the dump target directory

Issue

  • The console logs will show the following output (kdump: saving vmcore complete). However, after the boot only the file vmcore-dmesg.txt is available under the dump target directory.

                      Starting Kdump Vmcore Save Service...
    kdump: dump target is /dev/mapper/vsnap-data1
    kdump: saving to /kdumproot/opt/vsnap-data//crash/HOSTNAME-DATE-HOUR/
    kdump: saving vmcore-dmesg.txt
    kdump: saving vmcore-dmesg.txt complete
    kdump: saving vmcore
    Copying data                                                                            : [100.0 %] -                      eta: 0s
    kdump: saving vmcore complete
    
  • The following messages are printed in /var/log/messages after testing Kdump.

    Jun  2 15:34:20 HOSTNAME startup_pre: Removing kernel crash dumps from location: DUMP_LOCATION
