ntpd: authreadkeys: could not decode key

Issue

  • Clients are unable to authenticate to a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server after generating symmetric keys with the chronyc keygen command. The following error message is logged in /var/log/messages:
ntpd[128066]: authreadkeys: could not decode key
