New increased disk size not properly updated after partprobe in RHEL 8.5

Issue

  • In 8.2-8.3, running partprobe results in resized physical disk in VMware guest properly getting resized allowing pvresize to work.
  • In 8.5 running partprobe no longer results in new disk size being properly recognized.
    • pvresize fails to resize an expanded disk after partprobe due to disk size in kernel not changed
    • expanded disk size not properly detected within kernel
