In RHEL 6 , NFSv4 and idmapd hangs when trying to handle a change of file ownership to a group name with a whitespace.

Issue

  • A chown (or chgrp) process hangs on a file that exists on a NFSv4 share, if the target username/groupname contains spaces in between.
  • Server shows following error in /var/log/messages:
    rpc.idmapd[2025]: nfsdcb: bad name in upcall
