X flag (Password does not expire) gets reset when changing password on samba 3.0 on RHEL5

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6
  • samba3x-3.5.4-0.70.el5_6.2.x86_64

Issue

  • We would like to know which behavior of samba is the specification. On samba3x-3.5.4, when a user changed the password of samba user whose "Account Flags" is set to "UX" by smbpasswd command, "UX" flags remain in "Account Flags".
  • On samba-3.0.10, on the other hand, when they operated the same way on samba-3.0.10, "X" flag disappeared from "Account Flags".

Resolution

The 'Password does not expire' account control flag is not intended to be reset when the password is changed. If the flag resets when changing the password, this should be considered a bug that needs to be fixed.
