Failing to attach a Cinder multi-attach volume in OpenStack 16.1 due the API version

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After following the official documentation to create a multi-attach volume in a RHOSP 16.1 with RHCS 4 as storage back end and trying to attach it to an instance, the following error message is shown:

    $ openstack server add volume <instance-id> <volume-id>

    Multiattach volumes are only supported starting with compute API version 2.60. (HTTP 400) (Request-ID: req-977ece81-c008-4629-9c36-dc6efb9f733b)

  • How to use the API version 2.60 in RHOSP 16.1 to attach a Cinder multi-attach volume to a given instance?

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenStack Platform (RHOSP)
    • 13.x
    • 16.1
  • Red Hat Ceph Storage (RHCS)
    • 4.x
