When migrating an existing LDAP-tree to IdM with 'ipa migrate-ds', can we prevent the tree from getting flattened?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

We plan to migrate from the LDAP server to the IdM server using the ipa migrate-ds command. We currently have an LDAP tree with quite some leaves, using LDAP dc's and ou's. When migrating, we would like to keep that LDAP structure.

Can the user-container and group-container of the source LDAP server be configured the same on the destination IdM server when migrating with the ipa migrate-ds command? If possible, please let us know the procedure. If not, can we change directories after migration?

When converting LDAP to IPA, uppercase characters for username and group names get converted into lower case. Is this behavior specification of IdM, so is this expected behaviour?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 and 9
  • LDAP
  • IdM/IPA
  • migration from plain LDAP to IdM
