LVM commands or lvm2-monitor init script hang indefinitely when 4 or more volume group exist with the same name in RHEL 5
Issue
- LVM commands hang when there are 4 or more volume groups found with the same name
- LVM commands hang on a virtualization host
- When booting the system, it hangs at the lvm2-monitor script. Disabling the lvm2-monitor script allows the system to boot, but subsequent LVM commands hang.
- LVM commands such as vgs hang.

LVM commands like pvs, vgs, lvs, etc are hanging after printing warnings about Duplicate VG names.
