emacs opening junk characters

Issue

  • Running emacs displays junk characters and fonts are not loaded correctly
  • Below warning is observed while running emacs from terminal window

Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*" to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-medium-r-*--*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct

  • Problem is observed while running emacs from vnc session as well as from system console.
