GIT in OpenShift Build fails with "fatal: index-pack failed"

Issue

  • When running a build on OpenShift Container Platform, the git clone command fails with the following error:

    Cloning "ssh://git@git.example.com:8888/myexample/example.git" ...
error: Connection to git.example.com closed by remote host.
fatal: the remote end hung up unexpectedly
fatal: early EOF
fatal: index-pack failed

  • git clone fails for a large repository (>10GB) with fatal: index-pack failed and fatal: early EOF.
