Performance degradation in GPFS filesystem

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • We upgraded from RHEL6.2 to RHEL6.4 and are observing split I/Os and performance degradation of 15%-50% in GPFS filesystem performance.
  • What we notice is that performance degrades when GPFS block size is 4MB and higher (8MB, 16MB) which leads to larger I/O sizes.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • IBM GPFS
