kworker/##:###+delete_workqueue threads become blocked in 'D' state during "gfs2_inode_lookup"

Issue

  • Over time a server running gfs2 filesystems will build up a large number of kworker/##:###+delete_workqueue processes blocked in a D state.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 8 (with the High Availability Add On and Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • A Global Filesystem 2(gfs2)
