RHEL8: How to add an entry to the boot menu that specifies different options for the same kernel version?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

The documentation of RHEL8 does not contain anything to add entry using BLS (Boot Loader Specification) that specifies different options for the same kernel version. Instructions for creating a boot menu using the grub2 feature are provided in the RHEL 7 System Administrator's Guide 26.5. 4. It is not clear if the grub2 function could be used with RHEL8 using BLS, or how to configure it.

  • How do I set up an entry using BLS that specifies different options for the same kernel version ?
  • In RHEL 8, can I add an entry with the same number of kernel versions and different options by setting the entry information in grub2 40_custom parameter ? If so, how do I set it up? Also, in that case, how should I configure the BLS?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8
  • grub2
  • BLS (Boot Loader Specification)
  • boom-boot
