Why does the `needs-restarting` script shows processes in its output even after rebooting?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Updated the system by running the following command.
# yum update -y
  • Then ran the needs-restarting script which is shipped by yum-utils package, it showed some processes, so rebooted the machine.
  • Even after reboot, the needs-restarting script shows few processes in its output, whereas those shouldn't be there ideally. Why those processes are shown in the output?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5
