rsyslog crashes with "realloc(): invalid next size" error

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • rsyslog is crashing when using multiple file inputs (glibc realloc error)
    *** glibc detected *** /sbin/rsyslogd: realloc(): invalid next size: 0x00007f9d5c096760 ***
  • Also state files are not written to the work directory.
  • We've tried to compile a newer release (rsyslog-5.8.6) of rsyslog on the same box. This version of rsyslog works like a charm.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.1 (Santiago)
  • rsyslog-4.6.2-3.el6_1.2.x86_64
