GFS2 filesystem failes to mount with error - 'different fs appears to exist with same name'

Issue

  • mount command is failing to mount GFS2 filesystem and displays following error message:

    $ mount /dev/vg1/gfs_lv2  /gfs_mnt2
    different fs appears to exist with the same name
    error mounting lockproto lock_dlm
    

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with Resilient Storage Add On)
  • Global Filesystem 2 (GFS2)
