Why a file or directory is declared as provided by 2 packages at the same time ?

Issue

  • When checking which RPM is providing a directory or file, the output given has multiple result:

  • For example, /etc/cron.daily directory is declared as provided by two package:

    $ rpm -qf /etc/cron.daily
logrotate-3.14.0-4.el8.x86_64
crontabs-1.11-17.20190603git.el8.noarch

So the directory is owned by two packages.
