RHEL 5 style 'shutdown' and 'runlevel' logs not seen in RHEL 6 with Upstart

Issue

  • The following type of shutdown and runlevel messages seen in RHEL 5 are not output to /var/log/messages through Upstart in RHEL 6:
shutdown[<PID>]: shutting down for system reboot

init: Switching to runlevel: 6
