RHEL5.9: Soft Lockup with "sunrpc:__rpc_wake_up_task" and "sunrpc:__rpc_wake_up_status"

Issue

  • A regression with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 re-introduced some soft lockups when two CPUs attempt to call sunrpc:__rpc_wake_up_task
  • The /var/log/messages file contains Soft Lockups with sunrpc:__rpc_wake_up_task and/or sunrpc:__rpc_wake_up_status

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8
    • Kernels later than kernel-2.6.18-308.11.1.el5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9
    • All kernels affected
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.10
    • Kernels earlier than kernel-2.6.18-371.8.1.el5
  • NFS
