Fuse 7 OpenShift images contain unnecessary binaries

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

Fuse 7 customers are sometimes surprised to find that the Fuse OpenShift images (e.g., fuse7/fuse-java-openshift-jdk11-rhel8) contain binaries that are not strictly necessary for running Fuse applications. For example, the images contain a complete installation of Maven.

Customers sometimes feel that including unnecessary binaries creates a security vulnerability. It certainly increases the potential attack surface. Also, larger images require more storage.
