How to convert MySQL latin1 encoded database to UTF-8 encoding in RHEL6?

Issue

  • MySQL, by default for historical reasons, supports latin1 encoding. For support of a more robust character set, many move to UTF-8. Therefore, there are many resources on the web that describes this process. The problem is that the methodologies differ greatly, and none seem authoritative.

  • Does Red Hat have any documentation to facilitate the character-set migration of an existing MySQL database?
