Login program prints "Access denied" message on login but login success

Issue

  • During ssh to Red Hat Enterprise Linux box from a putty client, it prints "Access denied" message on login but login success.

    login as: user1
Access denied
user1@example.com's password:
Last login: Wed Oct 12 03:49:52 2011 from test1.example.com

  • The above error does not occur when sshing from another RHEL/linux machine.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/6
  • PuTTY is used as the ssh client.
