Cannot boot up server after encrypting the SAN filesystem attached.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Trying to set encryption using cryptsetup on a PowerPath device created from a 600GB LUN.

  • The mapping has been added to /etc/crypttab as following :

    data /dev/emcpowera1 none LUKS

  • The disk can be successfully mounted using the luksOpen command and can also be mounted when the system is up and running.

  • When the machine is rebooted it fails to mount the encrypted file system and complains about a superblock problem.
