dhcptimeout command line option is ignored by Anaconda in RHEL 5 and RHEL 6

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Anaconda documentation lists "dhcptimeout" as a valid parameter for anaconda. When I pass dhcptimeout=300 to anaconda, dhcp gives up after 45-60 seconds (the default timeout). See /usr/share/doc/anaconda-13.\*/command-line.txt for more information.
  • Anaconda is started with the command line option dhcptimeout=150, but it stops sending DHCPDISCOVER requests after only 60 seconds:

    boot: linux dhcptimeout=150 ks=http://server.example.com/ks.cfg

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.3 and earlier
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.7 and earlier
  • A "slow" network where responses from the DHCP server may take longer than 60 seconds
