logrotate fails on rotating some logs, citing 'insecure permissions' on parent directory

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • logrotate fails to rotate some logs, displaying with the following error (in this example, nova logs could not be rotated):
error: skipping "/var/log/nova/nova-api.log" because parent directory has insecure permissions (It's world writable or writable by group which is not "root") Set "su" directive in config file to tell logrotate which user/group should be used for rotation.
  • This can cause the root partition of the Director node to fill up, and can impact performance

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenStack Platform (RHOSP) 13.0
