While upgrading vmware-tools , system is throwing an error message "/etc/profile.d/lang.sh: line 7: sysxkbmap: unbound variable"

Issue

  • While upgrading vmware-tools on a VMWare Virtual Machine, the following error message is appearing.
"Creating a new initrd boot image for the kernel.
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh: line 7: sysxkbmap: unbound variable
ERROR: "/sbin/mkinitrd" exited with non-zero status"
  • This is not happening on all VMWare machines, but on random machines.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5
  • VMWare-Tools
