How to increase the maximum file upload size in EPP 5?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Environment

  • JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform (EPP)
    • 5.2

Issue

The default limit for uploading files to EPP 5 is 3MB.

Resolution

To change the limit of the maximum file size allowed for upload, change the web.xml file inside $EPP_HOME/jboss-as/server/$CONFIG/deploy/gatein.ear/gwtGadgets.war. These are the steps that one would need to perform in order to increase this limit:

jpkroehling@cupuacu ~ $ cd /tmp/
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp $ mkdir increase-upload-limit
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp $ cd increase-upload-limit/
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp/increase-upload-limit $ jar xf ^C
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp/increase-upload-limit $ mkdir unpacked
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp/increase-upload-limit $ cd unpacked/
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp/increase-upload-limit/unpacked $ jar xf ~/Downloads/epp-522/jboss-epp-5.2/jboss-as/server/default/deploy/gatein.ear/gwtGadgets.war
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp/increase-upload-limit/unpacked $ vi WEB-INF/web.xml
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp/increase-upload-limit/unpacked $ jar cf ../gwtGadgets.war .
jpkroehling@cupuacu /tmp/increase-upload-limit/unpacked $ mv ../gwtGadgets.war ~/Downloads/epp-522/jboss-epp-5.2/jboss-as/server/default/deploy/gatein.ear/gwtGadgets.war

On line 8, change the maxSize context parameter to 6291456, for 6MB. This value is expressed in bytes, so, for a 10MB you'd need 10485760 (10×1024×1024).

Root Cause

The file upload feature in EPP 5.2 has a maximum file limit of 3MB by default.
