How do I add a self-signed SSL certificate as a trusted source for vsftpd?

Issue

  • When connecting to an FTP server that uses a self-signed certificate you may encounter the following error when running commands such as ls via lftp:
ls: Fatal error: Certificate verification: Not trusted

$ lftp vsftp.localhost
lftp vsftp.localhost:~> login user1
Password: 
lftp user1@vsftp.localhost:~> ls
ls: Fatal error: Certificate verification: Not trusted
lftp user1@vsftp.localhost:~>
  • Add the SSL certificate as a trusted source.
