netfilter iptables rule with iprange module prints 'hoho' to stdout when used with '!'

Issue

  • Why  the string 'hoho' is printed to the STDOUT when using the iprange module in iptables rules and using the '!' symbol.

    [root@ ~]# iptables -A INPUT -m iprange ! --src-range 0.0.0.0-255.255.255.255
    hoho
    
    [root@ ~]# /sbin/iptables-restore /etc/sysconfig/iptables 
    hoho

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

  • kernel - 2.6.18-274.3.1.el5 x86_64

  • iptables-1.3.5-5.3.el5_4.1
