When using VMware Player with Kernel 2.6.32-431 the system hangs and crashes

Solution Unverified - Updated -

  • With the kernel version 2.6.32-431 the VM hangs on boot and eventually restarts. In order to avoid this the kernel was downgraded. System logs do not have any information on the cause.

  • After RHEL 6.5 kernel update the VMware player 6.0.1 host crashes after a user logs into Windows VM.

  • It works fine with kernel-2.6.32-358.14.1.el6.x86_64 but not with 2.6.32-431.3.1 or 2.6.32-431.5.1.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • kernel-2.6.32-431.el6 or later
  • VMware Player 6
  • VMware Worskstation 10
