Why do I have to restart the RHEV Manager (ovirt-engine) process if its database connection is interrupted?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • If the RHEV database is configured in a HA environment (e.g. on RHEL HA Add-on, fka Cluster Suite), the ovirt-engine service must be restarted whenever the engine database is relocated.
  • On an embedded database environment, after restarting the PostgreSQL database I have to restart ovirt-engine service for RHEV-M to work again.
  • The RHEV-M environment temporarily lost connection to its database. The database is accessible again but RHEV-M is still not working.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) 3.2.
