Deleting files on a RHEL 5 or RHEL 6 GFS2 file-system leaves many unlinked (not free) blocks

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Deleting files on a RHEL 6 GFS2 file-system leaves many unlinked (not free) blocks.
  • When files are deleted on filesystem, the space used by the file isn't freed.
  • Files deleted on GFS2 filesystem and df still shows space used.
  • Application df output of GFS2 incorrect after rm -rf command.
  • GFS2 filesystem is actually empty but appears to be full.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 (with the High Availability and Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability and Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • A Global Filesystem 2(GFS2)
