[RHEL5] Unable to log in the server using ssh, LDAP and nscd

Issue

  • Unable to login to the server using ssh.

  • The following errors appear in /var/log/messages:

Nov 10 16:47:26 server01 nscd: 26471 cannot change to old working directory: Permission denied; disabling paranoia mode
Nov 10 18:47:31 server01 nscd: 26471 cannot stat() file `/etc/hosts': Permission denied
Nov 10 18:48:46 server01 last message repeated 2 times
Nov 10 18:49:31 server01 last message repeated 3 times
Nov 10 18:49:44 server01 nscd: 26471 cannot stat() file `/etc/passwd': Permission denied
Nov 10 18:49:46 server01 nscd: 26471 cannot stat() file `/etc/hosts': Permission denied
Nov 10 18:49:59 server01 nscd: 26471 cannot stat() file `/etc/passwd': Permission denied

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • nscd service active and caching users, groups and hosts
  • LDAP client
