NetworkManager does not use the DHCPv4 provided hostname to set the transient hostname.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • NetworkManager is set to use DHCP provided hostname information, however on the next reboot, it ignores what DHCP offers.
  • DHCP hostname is ignored and the hostname is set as localhost.localdomain

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Isolated network without default route.
