Java committed heap decreases on OpenJDK11

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • On OpenJDK11, the PS Old Gen committed heap is not equal to the max heap. The committed heap is much less, resulting in more more frequent GCs in OpenJDK11.
  • Moving from OpenJDK8 to 11, the committed heap is much less than the max heap, even when min heap (Xms) is set equal to max heap (Xmx).

Environment

  • Red Hat build of OpenJDK 11
