Does openshift 4.X prefer local CoreDNS service over the network CoreDNS service?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Openshift 3.X uses local dnsmasq service running on the node to resolve all internal (skydns) and external dns queries.
  • Openshift 4.X uses dns svc address as the dns server in /etc/resolv.conf of the pods and that could use any random servers (CoreDNS endpoints) over the network. Some customers reported that network latency is costlier and that causes huge performance issues.

Environment

  • Openshift 4.X
