System fails to boot, drops to emergency shell and lvm commands show errors

Issue

  • System is unable to boot and enters emergency mode with the following errors:
        Failed to start Security Auditing Service
        Failed to start Monitoring of LVM2 mirrors
  • And/or, when running any lvm commands in emergency mode shows the following errors:
dracut:/# lvm lvs
Parse error at byte 49153 (line 1095): unexpected token
Failed to load config file /etc/lvm/lvm.conf

In some cases, lvm commands will show errors similar to:

dracut:/# lvm pvs
  Configuration setting "filter" invalid. It's not part of any section.
dracut:/#  lvm vgs
  Configuration setting "filter" invalid. It's not part of any section.
dracut:/# lvm lvs -a -o +devices
  Configuration setting "filter" invalid. It's not part of any section.
