Docbookx related errors during installation of virt-manager package.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Issue

  • Installing virt-manager package using yum command reported the following errors.

     I/O error : Attempt to load network entity http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.1.2/docbookx.dtd
     /usr/share/gnome/help/virt-manager/C/virt-manager.xml:840: parser error : Entity 'mdash' not defined

Resolution

  • Reinstall the docbook-dtds package by

    yum reinstall docbook-dtds
    

Root Cause

  • These error messages are harmless and that pop up due to docbook-dtds package corruption.
  • This will not affect virt-manager binary or any other components.
