Why does syslog show only the hostname of a server sending the syslog message and not also the full DNS-domain?
Issue
When logging syslog messages over network the receiving rsyslog shows only the hostname of the host where the message originated from. The output should also contain the DNS domain.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5
- RHEL 6
- network logging with rsyslog
