Why is NetworkManager not saving the EAP-TLS private key password when configured with GNOME Control Center?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • NetworkManager is not saving the private key password for EAP-TLS when using 802.1X authentication
  • This happens regardless of if the password is saved for all users or just one user
  • This happens when the password is entered from GNOME Control Center. Using nmcli does not cause this issue.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.9
