Software RAID config lost after motherboard replacement

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Due to a hardware issue on server, the disks were removed and connected to a new server. But the new server fails to boot with following errors:

    boot failure

    These disks were configured in raid1 configuration. While troubleshooting the issue, we booted the system in rescue mode and were able to scan the mdraid array, but it was failing to assemble:

    $ mdadm -E --scan <--- finds the array
    $ mdadm --assemble --scan
    mdadm: No arrays found in config or automatically

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, 7
  • mdraid device configured using Intel RST
  • Root LVM volume configured on top of mdraid
