rpm packages built on a filesystem with 64-bit inodes are corrupt

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We are building local RPM packages on a filesystem with 64-bit inodes.  The RPMs contain corrupt files and fail to install.
  • For example:
    [root@localhost ~]# rpm -ivh smolt-1.4.2.2-10.el6.noarch.rpm
    Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
       1:smolt                  *** glibc detected *** rpm: malloc(): memory corruption: 0x0000000001d83b40 ***

    [root@localhost ~]# rpm -ivh package-1.0-1.el6.x86_64.rpm
    Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
       1:package                *** glibc detected *** rpm: invalid fastbin entry (free): 0x000000000160b390 ***
