Configuring RHEL to accept LPD connections from Unix clients

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • I need support for legacy client systems that use the LPD protocol, such as Solaris
  • I have some applications that uses LPD how can I obatin that?
  • An AIX server trying to access the remote print queue on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server reports an error "rembak: errno = 79: Connection refused"
  • We currently have CUPS configured on RHEL 4 and need to migrate it to RHEL 6. I have created new server with RHEL 6.4 and configured CUPS but the spool system is not able to connect. What i found is port 515 is not listening on the server.
  • I configured a printer and it prints OK from the CUPS server, but when I print from a remote Solaris client, I get got the error service-unavailable.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterpise Linux
  • Unix (Solaris, HPUX, etc.) clients that rely on LPD (Line Printer Daemon) protocol to print.
