CUPS stops printing and deleting files from /var/spool/cups seems to fix the problem

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • CUPS stops printing. When we delete files from /var/spool/cups and restart CUPS, the problem seems to go away for a while.
  • We need to find out first what is the cause of the CUPS printing to stop working. Is it due to the many files generated from the CUPS printing jobs that make the /var/spool/cups folder full and that caused the CUPS printing not to work?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), all versions
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS), all versions
