Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Executing loginctl as a non-privileged user results in a permissions error.
  • Executing systemctl is-active as a non-privileged user returns a status of unknown even if the service is running properly.
  • The issue can be temporarily resolved with a reboot of the host, but will return again after an indeterminate time.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.8
  • Quest Authentication Services is enabled and running
    • vasclnt-4.2.0-24754
  • SELinux is set to Enforcing on the host
