Why I'm getting "django.db.utils.OperationalError: server closed the connection unexpectedly" during some operations in Ansible Tower?

Issue

  • I'm getting the following error in Ansible Tower logs:

    django.db.utils.OperationalError: server closed the connection unexpectedly
This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while
processing the request.

  • This problem is usually produced when Tower executes a big operation against the database, like an inventory synchronization from a different source or something like that.

  • External Postgres database
